Rollovers Defined:
roll·o·ver (rōl'ō'vər): The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety defines a rollover as a vehicle tipping onto its side or roof at any time during a crash. The rollover may occur at any time during the crash. The rollover may occur subsequent to a frontal or side impact with another vehicle or a fixed object. Many rollovers occur after the vehicle leaves the roadway and may lead to occupants being ejected from the vehicle, increasing the likelihood of a fatality. In other instances, vehicles’ roof-strength-to -weight ratio may be insufficient for the roof to maintain its structural integrity during such a crash, resulting in a roof “caving in,” or crushing, seriously injuring or killing its occupants.
